With the war raging, many war effort groups have popped up to give citizens opportunities to support the cause and help in legal and safe ways. The groups are open to any and all or select groups, but there is something for quite literally anyone. CIVIL AIR PATROL The Civil Air Patrol started life in the 1940s to guard the borders from invading countries and is currently experiencing its Renaissance today. While Muggles use airplanes to keep an eye on Great Britain's coast, witches and wizards may volunteer for night shifts over areas of large wizarding population to help prevent future Death Eater attacks.
QUIDDITCH UNITED SERVICES Quidditch has been suspended as of May 7, 1980. Rather than do nothing, Quidditch stars have begun an organization dedicated to boosting wartime morale. These stars will put on meet-and-greets, stage small neighborhood Quidditch matches, visit the injured at St. Mungos, and do fundraisers to help rebuilding efforts.
MIGHTIER QUILLS The Mightier Quills is an organization independent of political affiliation or government association that is dedicated to keeping the press free of coersion, slander, and dirty bribery. During wartime, the Quills particularly keep a close watch on unbiased reporting and transparent Ministry function, much to the annoyance of the DMLE Auoror office who prefer to keep things covert for national security.
FRIENDS OF THE DMLE The Friends of the DMLE was originally started by a wife of an Auror. Its purpose is to provide cheer, food, and coffee (and occasionally cigarettes) for the hardworking staff of the DMLE of all professions. It's a pretty straightforward club - they meet every month or so and distribute goodies as the budget (and interest) allows. Recently they have amped up their support as the war has worsened.
PURPLE HATS The Purple Hats is an exclusive collection of the daughters and wives of wizarding world's most glamorous families. The Purple Hats are generally a conservative, Pureblood group, though they do allow for supposedly "open membership". Whether or not you will feel altogether welcome at their functions is another matter entirely. Purple Hats involve themselves primarily with the education of youth, the beautification of various wizarding landmarks, and lunching, which they do every Thursday like clockwork.
SALAZAR SOCIETY More or less the male version of the Purple Hats, the Walpurgis Society is a group for the gentlemen of the more ritzy families in wizarding society that has roots as far back as Slytherin himself -- although, that might just be rumor. While they don't plan luncheons or fundraisers, they do enjoy intelligent and politically driven conversation, expensive alcohol and cigars, and other various activities. They get together at least twice monthly on Saturday evenings, but it's not unheard of for there to be more additional meets.
WITHOUT SPOUSES As more families found themselves missing a husband, a wife, a father, a mother, several widows and widowers formed this group to share their feelings when it came to their respective spouses. It started with just two people at the Leaky Cauldron in 1974, and though it was inspired by the losses felt in the war, it was by no means inclusive only to those who lost their partners during the war. Each year, the number of those seeking comfort, help, and a little camaraderie with people who know what it feels like grows, unfortunately. The group meets on Thursday evenings, and changes locations depending on who has volunteered to host it. All are welcome.
